who were we before understanding aesthetics of expression? how does the freedom to express turn into a confining box of titles and looks and colors meant for mass production and boredom?
I look to aesthetics for feelings, vibes, comfort or security in the ability to make decisions, but am I really making an impact through identifying my emotional experiences and imprinting them onto the world if I’m doing it through simply copying everyone?
who am I but not an aesthetic?
who am I but not you?
aren’t we all just reflections of each other?
so what makes us different?
does it even matter if we’re different?
Well said. I had a video I wanted to put up on this very topic, but I decided not to and then my computer broke — so how’s that for a vibe lol. Maybe one day I’ll post it, but it doesn’t matter too much. I think the copying is a natural act, but the nuances and differences come to light when we take a step back & look from a new angle. And that’s when it gets really good.
Yeah it's a big problem. On substack, you "look" the same as I. Round avatar, 1 of 4 fonts, same font for notes, etc...
I think it's really not great. At best case, it's a magazine. But in what 5, 10 years, imagine giving someone a substsck link that goes to nowhere.
But it extends much more than that as you indicate here as well. It is both the curse and gift of being in a community with others perhaps.
